Increased Pay for Salem Firemen
A new schedule of pay for members of the fire department of Salem, Ohio, is provided in an ordinance recently enacted. By the new schedule the chief is to receive $100 a month. His salary heretofore has been $90. The engineer and captain are to receive $95 and $90, respectively, increases of $5. For the regularly employed firemen a maximum of $80 is established, reached according to a graduated scale after the eighteen months of service. Heretofore a flat salary of $75 has been paid. The scale of the regular men is graduated as follows: Less than sixth months’ service, $65 ; six months and less than one year, $70; one year and less than eighteen months, $75; eighteen months or more, $80. Call men are to receive $10 a month. Vacancies in the offices of captain and engineer are to be filled by promotion. An appointee to the position of engineer shall receive $90 a month for the first year and $95 a month thereafter.
