HUNTSVILLE SAFE GUARDED AGAINST FIRE.
Huntsville, Ala., determined to be up-to-date in its fire protection methods, has just added to its already efficient equipment a first-class combination chemical engine and hose wagon, of which an illustration accompanies this article. That it is likely to prove a great acquisition to the city’s fire department goes without saying, since it is one of the latest pieces of apparatus manufactured by the well-known firm of Charles T. Holloway & Co, Baltimore, Md.—in itself a sufficient guarantee of excellence. The counterpart may be seen wherever a first-class Holloway combination chemical engine and hose wagon is found in use—that may safely be said to be wherever there is a first-class fire department. On being tested, the new engine was found to be at least all that was claimed for it, and was at once accepted by the city’s fire department and Chief Stegall. Huntsvilleis now better equipped than ever for fire fighting, aud under Chief Stegall, the old firemen are being made still more perfect, while the recruits are being brought up to a high state of efficiency. In his endeavors in this direction Chief Stegall is heartily backed up by the fire committee of the council, by Mayor Moore and the whole body of the aldermen. The committee which purchased the chemical was composed of Mayor Moore, ex-officio, T. W. Smith, chairman, J. R, Boyd, jr., and R. L. O’Neal. The names of these gentlemen are engraved on the machine—a silver plate being used for the purpose.
