How Rhinebeck’s Water-works Were Saved.

The water-works have come safely and proudly through the storm and Rhinebeck is saved. When the rain burst over the mountains and pelted down on the beautiful green reservoir, timid people in its neighborhood began to borrow ladders so that they could reach the roofs of their dwellings if any of the hoops showed signs of breaking and letting the flood loose. But as it stood the strain hour after hour they grew more confident, hid the ladders from the eyes of their laughing friends who lived out of the track of danger, and are now laughing themselves over their fears.

The chief engineer of the water-works reports the following as the highest and lowest gauge of the water up to last night .:
