Hi-Rise Tool Breaks Windows, Puts Stream Into Upper Floors

Members of the New York Fire Department have developed a tool for high rise building fires that can remove a window at any height above the reach of aerial equipment and then put a hose stream through the opening. Thus, it can be used for either ventilation or stream application.

Called the hi-rise tool, this device is operated through a window on the floor below the fire floor so that the men operating it are not directly exposed to the heat and smoke on that floor. The tool presently has a l 1/4-inch straight tip on its operating end, but any fog nozzle or straight tip can be used within the limitations of the water supply and pressure needed for a good fire stream.
