Group Inspection Plan at Albany, N. Y.
A system of group inspection to familiarize members of the fire department with the interior of large buildings, has been adopted by Fire Chief Michael J. Fleming of Albany. Inspection squads of men off duty have been organized each day to devote an hour to inspecting the interior of the larger buildings in the city. The first inspection was made of the Hudson river division offices of the New York Telephone Co., on State street. This is a 15-story building housing the division offices of the ’phone company, the central operating office and numerous slate departments.
The firemen, including officers, were taken through the entire structure under the guidance of one of the officials of the company, the stand pipe system explained and the most hazardous parts of the building pointed out. It is planned to have inspections made also of the state capitol, education building, large hotels and office buildings.
