Gasoline Tank Car Fire at Terrell
Following a recent gasoline tank car fire at Terrell, Texas, the “Daily Transcript” accorded high praise to Chief J. Laroe and the firemen for their brave work, and also spoke in high terms of the excellent service done at the fire by an American-La France motor pumping engine. The bravery of the fire department. it is said, prevented an explosion that might have wrecked the city, by standing to their posts and extinguishing the blazing gasoline tank containing 10,000 gallons, with eleven other such tanks coupled to it. The local newspaper stated in part as follows:
“About midnight a car of gasoline to which eleven other cars of gasoline were attached, caught fire on the Texas & Pacific track as it was being pulled over some burning embers that had just been cleaned from the firebox of the engine. Almost immediately the fire leaped from the ground and caught to the place of leakage, partially enveloping the car. Terrell’s volunteer fire department, on receipt of the alarm, responded with great promptitude and in spite of the great danger involved, they stuck to their task until the fire was extinguished. The following firemen responded to the alarm, and by their heroism saved Terrell from being wiped off the map:
