Firemen Operated Illegally
In tracing through the old ordinances in Des Moines, Ia., it was found that during all the years the Fire Department ordinance was supposed to have been in force, the Des Moines firemen have been extinguishing fires under a false pretext. The ordinance, creating the fire department, passed in 1884, had never been signed by the Mayor. However, an up-to-date ordinance is now on its way to passage.
