FIREMEN FOR CHICAGO THEATRES.
Fire Marshal Horan, of Chicago, is certainly moving in the right direction for a change in the system of providing city firemen to guard theatres and public places during performances. He is in favor of withdrawing city firemen from the theatres of the city and instructing their duties to regular employes of the theatres. Of course, this cannot be done legally, without a modification of the building ordinance; but it is possible that some of the aldermen are inclined to favor the fire marshal’s suggestion. The reason alleged for the withdrawal of firemen from the theatres is that the two platoon system makes a larger force necessary.
