Legislative
* Survivor Benefits Tax Fairness (HR 1727) – makes retroactive the tax exemption for these benefits.
* Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor (HR 802) – authorizes the President to issue a medal to public safety officers for extraordinary valor.
* Memorializing fallen fire fighters (HJ Res 42) – lowers the flags on federal building in conjunction with the annual memorial service.
* Public safety officers benefits increased to $250,000 and benefits expedited for those who died on September 11th.
* Increased the mandatory separation age for federal fire fighters (HR 93) – maximum retirement age increased from 55 to 57.
* Reauthorization of Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program- reauthorized at $900 million through FY 2004.
Appropriations
* Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program-Increased funding from $100 million in FY 2001 to total of $360 million for FY 2002.
* VFA Program- $13.31 million appropriated for FY 2002. Increase from $13.28 million.
* Rural Fire Assistance-Maintained funding level at $10 million for FY 2002.
* Rural AED Program- $12.5 million new program authorized in 2000.
Administrative
* Safe Harbor guidelines for ambulance restocking cleared through the Department of Health and Human Services.
