FIRE REPORT FROM ALLIANCE.
From January 1 to December 31, 1899, there were forty-three alarms of fire answered by Chief Aungst and his firemen at Alliance, Ohio, as against thirty-one in 1898. In answering these alarms twenty-seven and one-half miles were traveled by the department; 7,750feet of hose were laid; forty-two hours were worked; 138gallons of chemicals were used; 565feet of ladders were raised; thirteen fires were put out by chemical extinguishers; seventeen, with water; two, with pails of water, and one, with dirt. The losses were as follows: On buildings. $74,475; on contents, $53 170—total, $127,045 (The loss on one fire alone was $45,880.) The insurance was as follows: On buildings, $35,200; on contents, $30,630—total $65,830; loss on buildings, $6,747.07; on contents, $46,304.55—total, $53,051.62; insurance paid on buildings, $5 897.57; on contents, $24,189.55—total. $30,087.12; loss above insurance on buildings, $1 141.60; on contents, $22,599.05— total $23,740.65. As will be seen, if the one very destructive fire loss of $45,380 is deducted from the total loss for the year, the balance of $7,707.92 represents the total loss on forty-two alarms answered.
