Fire Prevention Travels By Trailer to the People
Fire prevention activity is mobile as well as constant in Southampton, N.Y. An 8 X 25-foot trailer contains a mobile display that includes automatic fire detection and extinguishing systems, fire extinguishers for demonstrations, firemen’s protective equipment, home inspection check lists, films, NFPA pamphlets and many other items directly connected to fire safety and prevention.
Many times, I had discussed the idea of a mobile display to take our fire prevention program to the people, and in the February 1970 issue of Fire Engineering (page 59), I read about the Kitchener, Ontario, fire prevention trailer. I decided that this is what we should have in Southampton, so I went to the Town Board and asked permission to buy a trailer. The board was receptive to the idea, and action was started to put our fire prevention program on wheels.
