Fire House and Pumping Station Design
Some weeks ago FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING asked fire chiefs to send in articles and illustrations of new fire houses they may have erected or contemplate erecting in the near future. The response to this request has been particularly gratifying and several very creditable designs have been published which we hope have been of service to other chiefs.
An article of practical value leads this week’s issue on proper water works pumping station design. This is a matter that is often sadly neglected by superintendents. A plain building, square and unsightly sometimes houses the pumping machinery of the city. There is little excuse for this. It is just as easy and only a trifle more expensive to design and construct a pumping station, filter house or other water works building so that it is a pleasure to look upon and an ornament to the surroundings as to build an eyesore.
