FIRE EQUIPMENT FOR RAIL ROAD TRAINS.
A bill has been introduced into the Senate by Senator Platt, of New York, at Washington, and referred to the Inter-State Commerce committee, requiring railroads engaged in Inter-State commerce to carry on every passenger train, as a part of the equipment of such train, of a size and construction approved by the Inter-State Commerce commission, portable chemical fire extinguishers for the protection of passengers from fire. For the first year there shall be one extinguisher to each train; one more shall be added each year until every passenger and mail car has been supplied.
