Fire Chiefs Protest Convention Postponement

Chief F. J. Bryant of the Pineville, Ky., fire department, who was elected second vice-president of the Kentucky Fire Chiefs' Association after the 1923 convention. has protested against the proposed postponement of the association’s convention until 1925. Referring to the matter of the postponement, Chief Bryant in a letter to John B. Kirby, secretary-treasurer of the Kentucky Fire Chiefs' Association, says in part:

“I am living in hopes that the board of directors will look at this in another way and call the convention for an early date this year. I feel very confident that if this convention goes over until the year of 1925 the chiefs will have lost all desire for another convention. Other than that we have firemen that put their mind from year to year on the chiefs’ convention and talk to each other, wondering what new methods will be out next year in the fire line. Then there arc those that think ‘Well. if it were not for the fire chiefs’ convention next year I would quit this job and get another.’ Then along comes the convention and their chief is present and goes through the sessions. He has an enjoyable time going through all the training, climbing the ladders and jumping into the life net and, of course, he thinks that is great sport. The chief goes to the convention rather blue and sick of his job, but when he comes home he is cram full of pep, and the first thing he thinks of is to get his firemen together and give them a little of what had been crammed into him while at the convention. When the next year comes he thinks he will surely attend the next convention.
