Derra New Chief of Schenectady
Succeeding the late Chief Henry R. Yates, is Deputy Chief Engineer August G. Derra. Chief Derra joined the fire department as a member of E. W. Paige Hose Company No. 5 in August, 1897, and served in that company until May, 1898. On May 2, 1898, he was appointed member of the Volunteer Fire Department in the same company and resigned as a member of this company May 4, 1901.
Chief Derra’s first promotion came when he was appointed Captain of the Central Fire Station on Sept. 1, 1903. He served in this . capacity until December 21, 1906,
