Decorations for Length of Service

董事会委员of Elizabeth, N. J., has recently adopted a resolution providing decorations for firemen according to their years of service. The resolution amends the rules of the department and was introduced by Commissioner Harris. All members of the uniformed force are required to wear stripes to indicate years of service, as follows: five years or more, one silver stripe; ten years or more, one gold stripe; fifteen years or more, one gold and one silver stripe, the latter to be worn above the gold one; twenty years or more, two gold stripes; twenty-five years or more, one gold star; thirty years or more one gold star and one silver stripe, the latter to be worn above the star; thirty-five years or more, one gold star and one gold stripe, the latter to be worn above the star. The amendment further provides that the stripes shall be two inches long and a quarter inch wide, must be made of standard braid and shall be worn four inches from the end of the sleeve.
