Deadhead Fire Protection at Lowell

The Lowell, Mass., "Sun” says: “The action taken at the town meetings with regard to providing greater fire protection in the surrounding towns is indicative of an awakened consciousness of the inadequacy of the old system and is full of promise for the future. In the case of Tewksbury sufficient money has been appropriated to give the town a fair start with a modern department of its own, and Dracut will give the contrast in what may be done by co-operation with Lowell and the town of Methuen. As each system has advantages peculiar to itself it is well that within such a slight radius, two plans of possible far-reaching consequences will be adopted, and the future of all our suburban communities with regard to fire fighting will undoubtedly depend largely on the experiences of Dracut and Tewksbury in connection with the plans adopted at the town meeting.”
