Some D.C. firefighters are being employed in anti-crime efforts in the district, according to a new report.
FOX 5 reported (http://bit.ly/1c7ZaqB) that a small group of firefighters have been sitting in their trucks at specific intersections in the city in an effort to deter crime.
According to an internal document obtained by FOX 5, the order to deploy out from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. didn’t come from the fire chief or police chief but instead from Paul Quander, the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety.
Some of the firefighters on this assignment belong to one of the busiest firehouses in the city, and were under orders to sit there unless dispatched to an emergency.
Ed Smith, the President of the Firefighters Union, objected in a statement to firefighters being use in law enforcement initiatives.
