Chief Kage Removed

The Board of Fire Commissioners of North Tonawanda, N. Y., at a meeting January 13th removed Frank Kage as chief of the fire department and appointed First Assistant Chief Charles F. Doebler as his successor. This action was taken following the reading of a communication from Mayor Rand to the board asking that the change be made. Kage has been chief for the past five years and has an excellent record and his removal came as a shock to the firemen in attendance at the meeting. Members of some of the companies predicted the disbanding of their organizations because of Kage's turn down. The fire commissioners say they are prepared to meet the issue if it arises. Charles Gaylord, a new member of the commission, was elected chairman. James S. Hewitt was reappointed superintendent of fire alarm. John Mapes was reappointed assistant.
