CHIEF CROKER QUITS AUTOMOBILE.
Chief Croker, of the New York city fire department, answered a call to a fire at 44 Fulton street the other night in his big red automobile. The fire was a trivial affair, and the chief started back to his headquarters. The automobile went fifty feet, and then, with an expiring “chug, chu, ch-u-tt,” came to a dead stop.
“I’ll fix it. I know what’s the matter,” said the chief. That operation consumed forty minutes, while rain fell in sheets and Fulton street was a rushing river.
