CAPTAIN SHAW AND THE ST. LOUIS POMPIER CORPS

Captain Eyre M. Shaw, chief of the London Fire Brigade, was much pleased, while on his late visit to this country, with the exhibition manoeuvres of the St. Louis Pompier men. Walter J. Forbes, of the La France company, had at Cincinnati one of the Hayes trucks made by that company, and in order to exhibit it thoroughly, secured the services of the Pompier Corps. Captain Shaw was curious about the ladder, and Mr. Forbes explained all its parts carefully, as a result of which Captain Shaw, on his return home, immediately ordered one of the trucks. The following letter recently received from the Captain by Chief Sexton of St. Louis, expresses his opinion of the Pompier Corps.
