Business Buildings Destroyed
The most disastrous fire in the history of Detroit, Minn., took place at noon, August 14, when twenty buildings in the business section were destroyed. A sweeping northwest wind assisted the fire. The town has no fire equipment. Calls for assistance were telephoned to Frazee and Fargo, and a freight engine chanced to be at Frazee. This was used and within 32 minutes from the time Chief D. L. Durkin received the call he had a motor throwing water on the fire. It was a record breaking run. The Frazee firemen were able to render great assistance and they appeared on the scene at a critical moment. Fargo immediately loaded an engine and hose cart on a car, in charge of Chief J. W. Sutherland, but arrived too late to be of any service.
