BROOKLYN.
Fire matters are dull in Brooklyn, but it is only the calm before the storm. As yet the new Commissioners appear to be divided upon the question of patronage, as is evident from the delay in the appointment of a Secretary to the Board. Each Commissioner, it appears, has some favorite whom he is anxious to install ; but as neither seems willing to give way to either colleague, it is not unlikely that the appointment will not be made for some time to come.
At the meeting of the Board of Aldermen last Tuesday, Alderman Duane introduced a resolution which was subsequently referred to the Paid Committee, to reduce the salaries of Foremen to $900 per annum, and $800 for the first year upon every new appointment after the passage of the act, the difference between the first and subsequent years’ salaries to be lessened gradually at the option of the Board of Commissioners.
