Boy Scouts in Fire Drill in Washington
The Boy Scouts of America in Washington, D. C., were recently drilled before moving picture cameras practically all day for a fire drill. The boys were put through a bucket brigade, abutting ladders, carrying firemen’s lift on same, the use of the life net, jumping from windows, the use of ropes for fire escape work, entering a building with smoke masks and with wet handkerchiefs over their faces. Then the boys were taken on a ride on motor apparatus along North Carolina avenue. Field Executive Patton, of the Washington headquarters, reports that it is proposed to hold such a demonstration or drill every month or two, as the badge of firemanship is one of the most popular of the organization’s entire number. The drilling of the boys at a fire station was due to the co-operation of the Washington fire department, of which F, j. Wagner is chief, the drill being held at a fire station.
