Boston Tests Second High Pressure Wagon

A spectacular exhibition test of the high pressure wagon of High Pressure Co. No. 2, of the Boston fire department, was held on Albany street, near Dover street, recently. Two

powerful streams were thrown from the “wagon guns” which were specially designed for the city of Boston by Andrew J. Morse & Son., Inc. A large crowd of spectators witnessed the test which was held under the direction of Chief Peter E. Walsh, Deputy Chief John O. Taber, Chief of Motor Apparatus James Ryan, Superintendent Eugene Byington, and John S. Caldwell, of the New England Insurance Exchange. As the high pressure system in Boston is not yet completed the power for the streams was furnished by four AmericanLaFrance motor pumping engines. At the close of the test of the Morse guns a special test was held to show the relative capacity of a motor pump compared with a steam fire engine. The motor pump was able to maintain a steadier rate of pumping than the steamer, according to officials. High Pressure Co. No. 2 has been installed in the Fort Hill Square fire station, responding as a hose wagon with Engine 25. The wagon is one of three similar cars built for the Boston department.
