BIG FIRE IN SAN FRANCISCO.
The largest fire San Francisco has had in many years, started Thursday night in the south side of the city, where nearly all the buildings are light, inflammable structures. The fire started in a box factory, a huge two-story frame building. A gun store burned a few minutes and the explosion of a quantity of powder added to the terror of the spectators.
The fire was burning as fiercely as ever at eight o’clock, but had turned almost directly east, with an arm flung out to the northeast. Oakland and Alameda sent assistance to the firemen, who blew' up several buildings in their efforts to check the flames.
