At Cincinnati, Ohio, bids were opened by the board of commissioners recently for cast iron pipe and special castings: There were only two bidders: R. D. Wood & Co., of Philadelphia, Pa., and the United States Cast Iron Pipe and Foundry company, of Chicago, Ill. The bids were as follows: A for delivery before December 1, 1899, and II for delivery before December 1, 1901 : It. D. Wood & Co., straight belland-spigot pijMi, A. $33; II, $20; straight flanged pipe, A and II, $55; special bell-and-spigot castings, A and II, $00; flanged specials. A, $75; B, $70. United States Cast Iron Pipe and Foundry company .straight bell-and-spigot pipe, A, $27.50; II $00.50 all other items both A and B deliveries at $70, except Hanged specials,B, at $80. The total amount of the first bidder was $215,959 and that of the second $240,009.
