Baltimore’s Great Problem.

Baltimore’s Great Problem.

The time has arrived for Baltimore to do something about its sewerage. At present its system is next to nothing. Engineer S. M. Gray, of Providence, R. I., is now in Baltimore to look the situation over. To a number of gentlemen he said:

“The proper system of sewerage for a city is regulated entirely by the local conditions of that city. The important feature of the question here, as far as I am able to see, is the disposal of the sewage. The present method of emptying the sewage into the stream without any previous operation is known as the crude system. Baltimore is a beautiful city, but it has more cesspools than any other city I ever saw, and their removal will be of great advantage from a sanitary and every other standpoint.”
