THE following letter, and the tables which accompany it, we publish in its entirety, as extremely important, not only in the comparison of prices at the present day and four years ago, but also as showing the tendency at the present time toward lower rates, in construction and contract work. This should, as Mr. Wells points out, prove an encouragement to other municipalities to go ahead with work held up on account of extreme prices. The letter and tables follow :
