Among the buffs

DEPARTMENT of There Is Always Something New Down Under The Sun: From Australia, Volunteer Fire Officer Andrew McEaehern tells of buffing activity which is somewhat unique.

Buff McEaehern says that although Australia is famous for kangeroos it has no known genus “sparks” in or out of captivity. It would seem, however, that there are buffs there, and their out-ofpocket expense for chasing fires is negligible. There is no need for fancy radio receivers, in or out of cars, alerting devices, telephone-answering services, or other grapevine arrangements.
