Always on the Job

Always on the Job

THE FIRE CHIEF: Fighting fires is no job for a "weak sister.” Whatever else his qualities, the fire chief, first of all. must be an upstanding, two-fisted fighter. He must be a man, because it takes a man to meet emergencies. It takes a man to boss a bunch of firemen. But "man stuff" alone is not enough. Fire fighting today is a science as well as an art. The modern chief conquers fire more by skill than by brute strength. He studies methods, materials and men just as carefully as the ablest executive of a million-dollar business. The safety of the city rests on his knowledge, skill and courage. Three hundred and sixty-five days this year he will prove that your confidence in him and in his department is well placed.

The Superintendent of Fire Alarm knows no eight-hour law. Day or night, week days, Sundays and holidays, whenever there is an emergency, you will find him on the job.
