Air Force and Hawaii Team Up For Maui Crash Protection
TEAMWORK between the Air Force and the State of Hawaii moved another step forward with the delivery of a crash-reseue truck from Hickam Air Force Base to Kahului Airport. The truck, an 0-11-A fire fighter, was flown to Maui.
Its loan to the state was arranged by Brigadier General John A. Rouse, Pacific Air Forces Base Commander at Hickam. Manning it is a crew of state employees specially trained by the Hickam Fire Department in its use. William Neilson, manager of the five Maui County airports, hailed the new addition to the Kahului fire fighting force which now has two World War II-type Navy fire trucks plus one supporting tanker. A foam truck, a World War II gift from the Marines, was transferred to Lihue Airport, Kauai, when the Air Force vehicle arrived at Kahului.
