“A WILLFUL AND MALICIOUS LIARS."
IN the Firemen's Herald of September 6th, in the advertising space controlled by J. E. Gillespie, president of the Fabric Fire Hose Company, appears a series of false and malicious statements regarding THE JOURNAL, its editor, also J. F. Preston, and various others. The prejudice entertained by Mr. Gillespie is easily understood when we state that employees of the Fabric Fire Hose Company furnished the money with which to establish The Herald, that Mr. Gillespie himself put in money for that purpose, and that he has ever since felt it incumbent upon him to lie about THE JOURNAL, and in the interests of its competitor. In his fusilade just published he continues to misrepresent THE JOURNAL, repeating falsehoods that he made in November last. At that time he discontinued his advertisement in our columns, stating substantially what he has now published. To his letter we then replied as follows:
