Woman Survives Overland Park, KS Fire

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas — A woman resident escaped astructure firelate Monday morning in the 8600 Block of Melrose in Overland Park. The home was a total loss but there were noinjuries. Other residents of the home were away at the time.

Firefightersarrived on scene after reports of heavy smoke coming from the home. They immediately worked to put out the fire that appeared to be coming from the attic of the single story home. Firefighters were able to have the flames under control in less than an hour.

Firefighters said that working smoke alarms played a huge role in alerting the resident of the home and helping her get out safely.

The woman told firefighters that she lived in the home with another adult and a child, but they were not home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters said they think the home is a total loss.

Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
