Report: No Errors in Australian Fire Where Firefighters Died

A state report on a Victoria (Australia)wildlandfire where two firefighters died early this year says there were no errors in the management of the fire.

The Harrietville fire burned 37,000 hectares after being sparked by lightning. Two firefighters, Katie Peters, 19, and Steven Kadar, 34, died when a tree fell on their vehicle on February 13, according to a report on heraldsun.com (http://bit.ly/16niSPs).

Questions arose about management of the“bushfire”after authorities said it was under control, only to have the fire burn for another 55 days.

The report dealt with how the fire extended across containment lines and addressed residents concerns about an interagency fracas that may have impacted firefighting efforts.
