Philadelphia Firefighters Get Mobile Training Unit

The Philadelphia Fire Department has unveiled a new mobile unit to help firefighters practice escaping from hazardous situations, reports NBC Philadelphia.

The Survivability Mobile Training Unit is a portable trailer that when assembled represents a two-story structure with two windows.

The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/1qCVXcI) reports that two firefighters rolled out of the windows during a demonstration Wednesday and descended with a harness.

Mayor Michael Nutter said the unit can visit various fire companies around the city to allow firefighters to train for escapes on-site rather than having to travel to the fire academy in northeast Philadelphia.
