NOFD Deems Five-Alarm Fire Suspicious

A five-alarm fire in the St. Claude (LA) area destroyed a warehouse, damaged residences and caused authorities to evacuate buildings early Thursday morning as firefighters battled the fire that was deemed suspicious, reports The Times-Picayune.

The New Orleans Fire Department was on the scene just after 1 a.m. and had it under control by 3:20 a.m. They said an unoccupied warehouse was destroyed and there was damage to residences. Some 81 firefighters responded to the call, including one who sustained minor injuries.

Three families who were forced to leave for their safety were assisted by the American Red Cross, the NOFD said.

No residents were injured, a spokesman said.
