A day after a five-alarm fire ravaged a Portland (OR) apartment complex, fire officials were meticulously sifting through debris to determine a cause, reports Katu.com.
The fire gutted the apartment complex and drew all of the Portland Fire Bureau’s firefighters. It was one of the largest fires in recent memory.
On Friday, federal investigators as well as Oregon State Police officials and the state’s Fire Marshal’s Office were at the site of the fire, combing through the rubble.
Part of the investigation will be reviewing all videos and photos that witnesses have turned over. Investigators have a lot of video footage to go over and they are trying to determine where the fire originated and how quickly it spread.
Witness Sophie Harris’ first instinct was to capture it by video. She’s a producer currently working on the documentary, “American Winter.”
“Wow, I should get some video,” she said. “Then, after that 10 seconds, I started … watching the neighbors … and I thought maybe taking video…shouldn’t be my priority right now.”
Investigators are trying to determine if the fire was accidental.
