FirefighterDamien Periera suffered a devastating injury when he wascrushed by an oak treewhile battling awildfireearlier this month.
Periera, 25, talked to KFSN/ABC30 about his prognosis and how he’s taking inspiration from the recovery ofFresno (CA) Fire Captain Pete Dern, who recently made his first public appearance after being injured earlier this year.
“我记得the tree hitting me on the head and then crushing me down like I was nothing,” Periera told reporters. He is paralyzed from the waist down, and doctors say there’s a 50/50 chance he’ll walk again.
Two inmate firefighters were also injured battling the Tulare County fire.
