Cold weatheracross the Midwest seems to have brought more fire activity to the region, as well as makingconditionsdifficult for firefighters there.
Last Wednesday, Oak Park (IL) firefighters battled an extra-alarm fire in a two-story dwelling. Command took adefensiveposture with this structure and had to deal withexposureproblems.
No one was home at the time of the fire. The fire began in the structure’s basement and got a good jump, burning away the stairs to the basement and extending up in the walls, floors, and ceiling of the balloon-frame home.
