Four firefighters and two residents suffered minor injuries after a four-alarm apartment fire in Manhattan Monday, reports NY 1.
Firefighters say the fire started on the bodega on the first floor and quickly spread.
Three apartments were completely destroyed.
Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Saccente blamed the building’s old design for the fire spreading as quickly as it did.
“This type of construction enables that,” Saccente said. “There’s a lot of voids and pockets where heat and fire could spread throughout the building to remote locations.”
