On January 22, at 0822 hours, Decatur Township Fire Department (Indianapolis, IN) responded to a semi vs. semi head-on motor vehicle accident west bount on I-70 over I-465. The semi (white) heading east bound crossed over into the west bound lanes hitting the other semi. The white semi stopped after hitting the bridge guard rails sending truck parts into the south bound lanes of I-465 (below). The driver of the white semi was pronounced DOA. The other driver was removed after 28 minutes and transported by helicopter to the trauma center. Approx 200 gallons of diesel fuel stood on the roadway (1 to 2″ deep in places). Decatur was assisted by Indianapolis (IFD) Tactical 7 (heavy rescue), Tactical 13 (haz mat), Wayne Twp Haz Mat 881, Plainfield Rescue 121, Wishard EMS and Lifeline Helicopter.
