Feb. 16—WESTPORT — A roof fire at a three-story building on Post Road shut down nearby roadways Tuesday afternoon, according to Westport Fire Deputy Chief Nick Marsan.
The Westport Fire Department received calls around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday about the fire. Arriving units saw heavy smoke from the roof. Firefighters then went into the building and searched its three stories to ensure everyone had evacuated, Marsan said in a statement Tuesday evening.
Crews then searched the top floor and attic for fire, and found it under the roof sheathing, according to Marsan.
Firefighters extinguished the fire with the help from the Norwalk and Wilton fire departments. Meanwhile, crews from the Fairfield and Weston fire departments helped cover the Westport station, Marsan said.
One firefighter was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Officials shut down the nearby roadways — Wilton and Post roads — during the fire, Marsan said.
The Westport Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, Marsan added.
