At least four people were killed when a fire gutted a house in upstate New York on Friday evening, reports the New York Times.
The fire was reported around 9:20 p.m. on Friday in the town of Elmira, Sgt. Russell Andrews of the Elmira Police Department said on Saturday. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and as of Saturday evening the identities of the victims had not been released.
There were no other injuries reported and it was not clear whether anyone else was in the home at the time, Sergeant Andrews said.
“Four subjects were found in the residence by the fire department,” he added. “All four succumbed to their injuries and died.”
Some witnesses said there were children in the home, but officials could not say whether any children were among the victims.
