Fire in Vacant CA Home May Have Been Caused by Squatters

No one was injured in a Sunday afternoon fire at a vacant home in Richmond, California. Authorities believe the fire was caused by homeless squatters.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (http://bit.ly/Wd2quW) that firefighters arrived on scene to find the back of the house and the roof fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters had the fire under control within approximately 30 minutes.

Richmond fire Battalion Chief Merlin Turner told the paper that firefighters found the house littered with bottles and other debris, and said it was very likely that squatters had broken into the house.
