TheU.S. Food and Drugs Administration(FDA) announced October 31, 2013 that the agency has taken two steps expected to help reduce criticaldrug shortages.

The agency is building on a strategic plan designed to address the underlying causes ofshortagesand has issued a proposed rule that would require manufacturers of certain drugs to provide the FDA with advance notification of manufacturing changes or discontinuance that might interrupt drug supplies.
