CA Firefighter Killed in Early Morning Wreck

A Cottonwood (CA) firefighter was killed at the scene of a motor vehicle collision early today.

Firefighters with the Cottonwood Fire Protection District and California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to an accident that had occurred during a hail storm. Road conditions made driving difficult and caused another vehicle to lose control, and then another, according to a report on andersonvalleypost.com (http://bit.ly/yIFL4B).

Trying to avoid the out-of-control vehicles, the driver of a black 2003 Chevy S10 passed between a CHP vehicle and a fire apparatus. A CHP officer, a firefighter, and one of the passengers of an earlier wrecked vehicle were struck.

The victims were transported to an area hospital where the Cottonwood firefighter was later pronounced dead.
