Zizo Knight woke up in the middle of the night to a strange popping sound.

At first he thought it was fireworks, but asthe 10-year-old boy peeredout his bedroom he saw his home engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

“He looked out of his bedroom window and observed the front porch and roof line heavily involved in fire,” Battalion Chief Ricky Collett said about the house fire on Thursday, July 14 near Waleska, Georgia.

Zizo quickly helped wake up his parents and his 18-month-old brother and the family evacuated the home, not long before it caved in, officials said in the release.

Firefighters got a call about the fire around 2 a.m. , according to the release. The house suffered extensive damage and the American Red Cross is helping the Knight family.

Photos show the roof of the Knight’s home covered in flames when firefighters were on scene. Officials also shared a photo of Zizo, who they say saved his family from the fire.

“Fire fighter in training maybe,already saving lives,” one commenter said. “Way to be observant little man.”

Waleska is about 50 miles north of Atlanta.
