A family of six escaped their burning residence overnight without serious injury as fire swept through a home swiftly Sunday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
A 19-year-old friend of the residents staying overnight did sustain a slight shoulder injury that was caused by herjumpingfrom a rear window to safety.
Firefighters received the call as a double residence fire with possible entrapment, but when they arrived on the scene and began their attack on the fire it was found that the house was a single-family dwelling and all residents had escaped to safety.
Firefighters initiated anaggressiveoffensive attack and had the fire under control in about 35 minutes. Damages were estimated at $30,000.
Smoke detectorswere no working at the residence. There were no firefighter injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. IFD would like to advise everyone to check yoursmoke detectorsa minimum of twice a year to make sure they operate properly.
