A fire station in northern California was burglarized while firefighters who operate from it were out battling the Morgan Fire near Mt. Diablo.
Firefighters returned to Station No. 7 in Walnut Creek on Monday after battling the wildland fire to find iPads, watches, cash and two wedding rings gone, according to a report from the local NBC affiliate (http://bit.ly/15jPlUG).
An investigation is under way. Police believe burglars pried open the locked back door sometime Sunday night while crews were out on the line. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman Steve Aubert said there was also a burglary attempt at Fire Station No. 3 in Walnut Creek on Monday while firefighters were asleep, but members woke up, causing the would-be burglar to flee.
